Modesto Virtual Academy – Online Independent Study

The Modesto Virtual Academy (MVA) is an online independent study program for students in grades TK-12. Students access coursework on their own time, and meet with their assigned teacher once a week. Your student’s teacher will monitor the pacing of the units and open and close assessments for your student.

MVA is full for the 2020-2021 school year. Families who submitted a pre-registration form after July 17 are on a wait list and will be contacted if space becomes available.

Students who have an interest in attending MVA who are currently eligible for Special Education and Related Services through an IEP, must have an IEP meeting to discuss a possible programmatic change PRIOR to enrollment in MVA. For those who submitted the pre-registration form prior to July 17, an IEP meeting will be scheduled within the first 30 days of the school year. For additional questions regarding this process,  please contact your case-manager.

Similarly, students on a 504 plan who have an interest in attending MVA, must have a 504 meeting to discuss a possible programmatic change PRIOR to enrollment in the MVA. For those who submitted the pre-registration form prior to July 17, a 504 meeting will be scheduled within the first 30 days of the school year. For additional questions regarding this process,  please contact your school’s 504 Coordinator.

2020-2021 MVA Student Updates

On Monday, August 10, at 8:30 a.m., all MVA students should participate in the First Day of School Kick Off with Superintendent Noguchi. . Information on how to access this event will be on your student’s Schoology page and on each school’s website.

For the first two weeks of the school year, MVA students will participate in transitional coursework to prepare for the switch to independent study.

Students in grades TK-6 can access their transitional coursework here. These materials are independently paced and can be accessed at any time.

Students in grades 7-12 will access their transitional coursework through a class linked on their Schoology page. Class times and course names vary, so be sure that students check their Schoology page. Students will access these classes each day to check in and receive assignments until they receive their MVA schedule. Depending on the needs of the student, these classes will last 15-30 minutes.

If your student needs help accessing Schoology, visit the Student Help Center

MVA teachers will contact all families Monday, August 10 or Tuesday, August 11 to answer questions and provide additional information, including next steps and what to expect over the coming weeks.
