High School Campus Security Update12/19/2014
The Modesto Police Department will remove all four school resource officers from our high school sites, effective January 13, due to loss of personnel.
Please know that student safety is Modesto City Schools’ top priority and we will maintain the safety of our campuses.
Currently, our high school sites have five or six campus supervisors (depending on enrollment) and a four-person administrative team, with one administrator dedicated to supervision. Site safety plans and emergency response procedures are in place and practiced by staff, and each site has a safety committee made up of administrators, site staff, campus supervisors, students and parents.
Immediately following the notification from MPD, Superintendent Able advised our high school sites to secure an additional campus supervisor to begin January 12, the day students return from winter break. At the next Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, January 20, staff will present a proposal for a new district security team. In addition to our current campus supervisors, the new security team will monitor campuses and trouble spots in surrounding neighborhoods. Security team members will have a higher level of training than our campus supervisors, including training in advanced restraint techniques and proper use of handcuffs. Each high school campus will have one new full-time security team member.
Again, student safety is the focus of our efforts. Please be assured we are diligently working to maintain our safe campuses during this change.
