• Community Engagement Forum: Key Outcomes

At the September 18 Community Engagement Forum with Dr. Jason Okonofua, we had our first look at the preliminary data he's collected so far.
Here are some of the "key outcomes" he shared:
Teachers involved in the study participated in a intervention that encouraged them to value students' perspectives and the importance of sustaining positive teacher-student relationships, especially in times of conflict. This kind of intervention has been found to improve the respect students feel in teacher-student relationships - especially for student at-risk of suspensions. This kind of intervention with teachers has also cut suspension rates by 50%.
In MCS, the effects of the intervention were as follows:

    Elementary School

Increased students' perception and feelings of respect from adults at their school

    Junior High/Middle and High School

Increased students' confidence to reach education goals
    Increased students' sense of purpose

Increased junior high/middle and high school teachers' job satisfaction
Increased junior high/middle and high school teachers' feelings of self-efficacy as teachers

We look forward to hearing Dr. Okonofua's recommendations at a future event.
