• Four of the Seven Districts Up for Election

November 7 will mark our first board member election by district. In the past, voters elected our seven-member board at-large, meaning everyone living within the high school district boundaries voted for all seats on the board. Now, our high school district boundaries have been divided into seven trustee voting areas or districts, and voters will only vote for one trustee who lives in their district.

This year, districts 1, 3, 5 and 7 are up for election. Trustee Cindy Marks is running unopposed in district 1, and Trustee Chad Brown is running unopposed in district 3. There are three candidates each in districts 5 and 7.

In district 5, the candidates are Rickey McGill, Michael Scheid and Charlene G. West. In district 7, the candidates are Matthew J. Harrington, Adolfo Lopez and Ryan Schambers.

The League of Women Voters of Stanislaus County will hold a candidate forum on Monday, October 2, at 7 p.m. in the Hughes Elementary School Cafeteria, 512 North McClure Road, Modesto. The candidate forum provides voters in these districts an opportunity to meet the candidates, ask questions and hear their positions on issues affecting education in Modesto.

For more information regarding the candidate forum, please contact the League of Women Voters of Stanislaus County.
