G230 Academy

G230 Academy Logo

G230 Academy provides students that are struggling in a traditional classroom setting the opportunity to obtain academic credit and extended teacher support in an alternative setting designed to help those students earn their high school diploma.

Students in 12th grade who are deficient credits and need recovery intervention in order to make up credits and receive a diploma receive enrollment priority. Those who achieve sufficient credit recovery prior to graduation may graduate with their current high school site, or they may return to their comprehensive site of residence at the semester if they are back on track for graduation.  11th graders may be enrolled after April testing at the sites.

G230 Academy @ Pearson Updates:

Modesto Area Express (MAX bus) has extended free rides for minors for the remainder of 2022

Route 26 drops off at Maze and Martin Luther King at 7:22 AM for the morning session at G230 Academy Pearson and 11:28 AM for the afternoon session. Remember, breakfast and lunch are served at Pearson so you can eat and be on time to class. For more information on route schedules, go to the Modesto Area Bus website (link in Files and Links).

Remember, masks are required on the city bus, even after the March 11, 2022, mask mandate is lifted.

Important Updates Regarding COVID-19:

Governor Newsom and State and Local Public Health Officials announced that mask mandates in schools can be lifted starting at the end of the day on Friday, March 11. This means that, beginning Saturday, March 12, it will no longer be a requirement, but instead a recommendation, to wear masks indoors at our school sites for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status. If an individual still wishes to wear a mask, they may continue to do so.

It is important to note that, until Saturday, March 12, all individuals are still required to wear masks indoors in order to remain in compliance with state Public Health requirements.

We appreciate your continued participation as we get closer to pre-pandemic status and returning to normalcy. Rest assured, MCS is committed to ensuring our school and district sites continue to remain a healthy and safe learning environment through our enhanced cleaning protocols and various ventilation upgrades that the District has made over the past 2 years.

Once again, starting Saturday, March 12, masks will no longer be required to be worn indoors at Modesto City Schools sites. If an individual still wishes to wear a mask, they may continue to do so.

Thank you for helping us keep our students and staff safe and healthy!

Covid-Related Short Term Independent Study

For students absent for Covid-related symptoms and/or quarantine, the state of California created legislation to support students at home. As of October 18, 2021, students who fall under the Covid-related absence category will be allowed to continue learning from home through a form of Short Term Indpendent Study.

In order for students to participate in this program while out for Covid- related symptoms and/or quarantine, parents are REQUIRED to complete a Master Agreement for Site Independent Study.” Please click the top link under Files and Links in the top right corner of this page to learn more and to find out how to access the form.

This Agreement will remain in effect from the time it is submitted through the end of the school year. For any questions, please contact your student’s G230 Academy teacher.

Who Attends?

Down Credits - High school juniors and seniors who are deficient credits, need recovery intervention and accelerated options to make up credits and get back on track for graduation.  Seniors have priority but junior referrals are accepted for the following school year.

Special Circumstances

  • Students identified as at-risk of dropping out and who, for a variety of reasons, have found that the traditional structure of a comprehensive site is not the ideal learning environment for them.
  • Students who demonstrate skills in organization, motivation, and self-discipline that would make an individualized, on-line learning environment more suitable for their learning style and success.
  • Students must be able to attend classes daily and provide their own transportation.
  • Students must demonstrate behavior consistent with a quiet, productive learning environment.

How is a student enrolled?

High school administrators and counselors refer students to the G230 Academy. Enrollment depends on available space. When the program reaches capacity, subsequent referrals are placed on a wait-list until space becomes available. G230 Academy staff notify counselors and/or students or parents when space opens up and they are next on the wait-list. In some cases, the G230 Academy can enroll students who have not obtained their diploma and who have not been continuously enrolled in school after their 12th grade year.
