2018 Superintendent Search
At a special board meeting on February 5, 2018, the Modesto City Schools Board of Education voted to conduct a superintendent search to find a permanent replacement for Superintendent Able, who retired in January. At the same special meeting, trustees approved a request for proposals for superintendent search firms.
At a special board meeting on February 20, 2018, trustees interviewed four superintendent search firms and selected Leadership Associates to conduct the superintendent search. The key steps towards finding a new superintendent will be reported on this page.
Using the input gathered from the online survey, public forums and meetings with various community and employee groups, Leadership Associates created the Position Description linked below. The Position Description includes information regarding the selection process and application requirements.
Public Notice of Open Forum
As part of our superintendent search, the Modesto City Schools community is invited to participate in a public forum to express to the Leadership Associates consultants the qualities and characteristics they would desire in a superintendent of schools.

The Modesto City Schools Board of Education wants your help in selecting our next superintendent. Consultants from Leadership Associates, the firm we hired to conduct the superintendent search, created an online survey to solicit input from students, families, staff and the community.
The information generated from the survey will be used to develop a profile which indicates desired qualities and characteristics in our next superintendent. It will also guide the recruitment and reference checking process and the development of questions for the interview. Consultants will compile a report summarizing the survey results and share it will trustees.
The survey will be open March 19-23.
