2020-2021 School Year Information
UPDATE: March 25, 2021
Stanislaus County was officially assigned to the Red Tier March 23, 2021. As a result of reaching the Red Tier, we are able to welcome junior high and high school students back to campus for in-person instruction two days a week. All junior high and high school campuses will reopen in a cohort hybrid learning model on Monday, March 29.
Students in cohort A will return on Monday, March 29, for in-person attendance on Mondays and Tuesdays. Students in cohort B will return Thursday, April 1, for in-person attendance on Thursdays and Fridays. Wednesdays will remain a distance learning day for all. Remember, parents have the option of keeping their student in 100% distance learning.
With the return to in-person learning at junior high and high schools, bell schedules have changed. The changes to the bell schedule necessitated changes to all bus schedules. The new junior high and high school bell schedules and the new bus schedules begin Monday, March 29.
Students in grades TK-6 can attend school in-person four days a week – Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Wednesdays remain a distance learning day for all. Parents had the option to commit to in-person learning, or 100% distance learning. The commitment will continue trough the end of the school year.
UPDATE: November 10, 2020
On October 19, the MCS Board of Education took an important step forward in the effort to safely reopen our elementary schools to welcome back our preschool and TK-6 grade students. During the meeting, the Board Trustees approved the Safe Schools Reopening Plan and Waiver Application, and then the Stanislaus County Health Services Agency and the California Department of Public Health approved the waiver application on October 26.
While Stanislaus County is currently only permitted to look at reopening elementary schools using the waiver process, we have begun discussing the safe reopening of our junior high and high school sites, but we are not yet to the point where we are able to do so. But, for our junior high and high school families, much of the information regarding the reopening of elementary schools will also apply to junior high and high schools.
First and foremost, it is important to know that as your student’s parent or guardian, the decision on whether your student will return for in-person instruction is completely up to you. You can decide to keep them 100% distance learning as is currently happening. Again, rest assured, you have a choice on whether to send your student back to campus for in-person instruction or to keep them home to participate in 100% online learning.
Classes will be split into two groups, or cohorts, and students will attend school on-campus (for those interested in doing so; parents have the option of keeping their child in 100% distance learning). Group A will attend school on campus Mondays and Tuesdays, and Group B will attend school on campus Thursdays and Fridays, receiving live instruction in the classroom from their teachers. Wednesdays will be distance learning at home for all students.
On the days when students are not attending school on campus, they will be online and distance learning from home, with their teachers instructing in real-time for both the students learning at home and those who are in the classroom.
- Group B (TK-2nd grades) Return date: November 12, 2020 (Yellow color group)
- Group A (TK-2nd grades) Return date: November 16, 2020 (Green color group)
- Group A (3rd-6th grades) Return date: November 30, 2020 (Green color group)
- Group B (3rd-6th grades) Return date: December 3, 2020 (Yellow color group)
UPDATE: August 6, 2020
All Modesto City Schools will resume school ONLINE through either distance learning or the Modesto Virtual Academy on Monday, August 10, 2020. Modesto City Schools continues to remain focused on protecting the health and safety of our students, parents and staff. In the future, once State and Public Health Officials begin to identify a downward trend in hospitalizations and confirmed cases of COVID infections, schools may start to reopen in a phased approach.
